Mpumalanga: Another rapist sent to jail and identikits released of two suspects wanted in connection with alleged rape

NELSPRUIT – Another rapist, 43-year-old Peter Zerah Mohlala has been sent to jail to serve 30 years imprisonment by the KwaMhlanga Magistrate’s Court for raping and robbing a 28-year-old woman.

The court heard that on 23 June 2013, Mohlala accosted the victim and her friend while they were entering their house at KwaMhlanga. He forced the victims to a nearby bush at gunpoint where he raped one of the women and robbed them of their cellphones, then fled the scene.

A manhunt was launched for the suspect with no luck up until he was found again on the wrong side of the law, where he and his friend, Simon Rahlaba aged 31, gained entry through a window into a certain house at Pieterskraal, Siyabuswa, around July 2017. Mohlala raped another woman and proceeded to rob some items at gunpoint before fleeing. A manhunt was launched which led to the arrest of Rahlaba, who then provided information on Mohlala’s whereabouts, which culminated in his (Mohlala) arrest.

Upon further investigation, Mohlala was then linked to the KwaMhlanga incident, hence the sentencing on Tuesday, 20 February 2018. He was sentenced to ten years imprisonment for each case, the rape as well as two counts of robbery and he will therefore serve an effective thirty years in prison.

Mohlala and Rahlaba are still expected to stand trial for the Siyabuswa incident which will commence on 08 March 2018, at the Siyabuswa Regional Court.

In a separate incident, the identikit of two suspects who raped a pregnant woman at a plantation outside White River has been compiled.

This incident took place on 08 January 2018, when the suspect and his accomplice offered the woman a lift while she was hitch-hiking with her five year old child. Along the journey, she was pointed with a firearm, told not to scream and driven off to the bushes. One of the suspects brutally raped her at knife point in front of her five year old. During this ordeal, she managed to fight back and bite the suspect, both suspects ran off in a white Toyota Tazz.
